What is CUET?
CUET stands for Common University Entrance Test. It is a standardized test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of universities in India. CUET is a relatively new initiative aimed at simplifying the admission process to undergraduate programs in central universities. It provides students with a single-window opportunity to apply for multiple courses in various universities.
Purpose of CUET:
The primary purpose of CUET is to streamline the admission process for undergraduate programs across central universities in India. Before CUET, students had to appear for multiple entrance exams for different universities, which was both time-consuming and stressful. CUET aims to provide a common platform where students can take one test and apply to various universities.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible to appear for CUET, you must fulfill certain criteria. Typically, candidates should have completed their 10+2 (or equivalent) from a recognized board or university. It’s essential to check the specific eligibility requirements of the universities and courses you intend to apply for, as they may have additional criteria based on the program’s nature.
Examination Pattern:
CUET is divided into two parts:
- General Aptitude Test (GAT): This section assesses your logical reasoning, General Knowledge and quantitative skills. It consists of multiple-choice questions.
- Course-specific Section: This section evaluates your knowledge in the subject related to the course you are applying for. The questions in this section are designed to assess your understanding of the chosen subject.
Preparation for CUET:

- Understand the Syllabus: Familiarize yourself with the syllabus of the specific courses you want to apply for. Focus your preparation on the relevant subjects.
- Practice Regularly: Practice is key to success in CUET. Solve previous year’s question papers and take mock tests to get a feel for the exam pattern.
- Time Management: Managing your time during the exam is crucial. Learn to allocate the right amount of time to different sections to ensure you attempt all the questions.
- Stay Updated: Keep yourself updated with current affairs and developments in your chosen subject. This will help you excel in the course-specific section.
- Seek Guidance: Don’t hesitate to seek guidance from teachers, mentors, or coaching centers. They can provide valuable insights and resources to aid your preparation.
Advantages of CUET:
CUET offers several advantages to aspiring students:
- Simplified Admission Process: CUET streamlines the admission process by providing a single platform for multiple universities, reducing the hassle of appearing for multiple entrance exams.
