CUET Eligibility Criteria 2024

Sep 22, 2023

The CUET eligibility criteria for 2024 are as follows:

  • Nationality: Indian citizens or persons of Indian origin are eligible to apply for the CUET exam.
  • Educational qualification: Candidates must have passed Class 12th or any equivalent examination from a recognized board or university. In India, CUET is used for admission to undergraduate programs in various central universities, and each central university may have its own reservation policy. However, many central universities follow the common reservation policy mandated by the government. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, this common reservation policy was as follows:
    • Scheduled Castes (SC): Typically, around 15% of seats are reserved for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC). These are groups historically marginalized and discriminated against.

    • Scheduled Tribes (ST): About 7.5% of seats are usually reserved for students from Scheduled Tribes (ST). This is aimed at uplifting tribal communities that have faced historical disadvantages.

    • Other Backward Classes (OBC): Around 27% of seats are reserved for students from Other Backward Classes (OBC) who do not belong to the creamy layer. OBCs are considered socially and educationally disadvantaged.

    • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): A reservation of about 10% is typically allocated for students from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) among the general category. This category is based on economic criteria, and students from families with lower income levels can benefit from this reservation.

    • Persons with Disabilities (PwD): A percentage of seats (usually 5%) is reserved for candidates with disabilities. The level of reservation may vary based on the type and extent of disability.

    • Horizontal Reservations: In addition to the categories mentioned above, central universities may also have horizontal reservations. For example, there might be separate reservations for women, defense personnel, Kashmiri migrants, and others, depending on the university’s policies.

Please note that these reservation percentages can vary among central universities, and it’s essential to check the specific admission guidelines and policies of the university to which you are applying. Additionally, the reservation policies are subject to change, and there may have been updates or modifications after my last knowledge update in September 2021. Therefore, it is advisable to consult the official website of the relevant central university or the examination authority for the most up-to-date information on CUET reservations.

ChatThe education qualification requirements for CUET (Common University Entrance Test) vary depending on the specific undergraduate program you are applying for and the central university in question. CUET is used for admission to various undergraduate programs across central universities in India, and each university may have its own eligibility criteria. However, there are some general guidelines regarding education qualifications:
    • 10+2 or Equivalent: In most cases, candidates should have completed their 10+2 (or equivalent) level of education from a recognized board or institution. This means you should have successfully passed your higher secondary or equivalent examination.

    • Subject Requirements: The specific subjects required for eligibility may vary depending on the program. Some programs may have subject-specific requirements, while others may not. For example, if you’re applying for a science-related program, you might be expected to have studied specific science subjects in your 10+2.

    • Minimum Percentage: Some central universities may specify a minimum percentage or grade point average (GPA) that candidates need to achieve in their 10+2 examinations to be eligible for CUET. This minimum percentage can vary from university to university and from program to program.

    • Relaxation for Reserved Categories: There are often relaxation criteria for candidates belonging to reserved categories (Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, etc.) in terms of minimum percentage requirements. These candidates may be eligible with lower percentages than those required for general category candidates.

    • EWS and PwD Categories: There may be specific eligibility criteria and relaxations for candidates from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories.

    • Age Limit: While age limits for undergraduate admissions can vary among central universities, most universities do not have specific age restrictions. However, some programs like integrated law courses may have age limits.

It’s essential to check the specific eligibility criteria and educational qualifications required for the particular program and university you intend to apply to. These criteria are typically detailed in the official admission notifications and prospectus provided by the central university or the examination authority conducting the CUET.

Age limit: There is no age limit for appearing in the CUET exam

  • Number of attempt:There is no limit on the number of attempts for the CUET exam
  • Key points : CUET is a national-level entrance exam for admission to undergraduate programs in central universities.
  • It will be held in July 2024 in a computer-based test (CBT) format.
  • The exam consists of three parts: Language Test, Domain-Specific Tests, and General Test.
  • Candidates can choose one language, up to three Domain-Specific Tests, and one General Test.
  • Each part of the exam will be conducted for a duration of two hours.
  • The CUET scorecard will be released within a few weeks of the exam.
  • Candidates can download their scorecard from the official website of the NTA.
  • Reservations : The CUET (Common University Entrance Test) reservation policy refers to the practice of allocating a certain percentage of seats in central universities to specific categories or groups of students based on criteria such as caste, gender, disability, or other social and economic factors. The reservation system aims to promote social equity, uplift disadvantaged groups, and provide equal educational opportunities to all sections of society.
